A Bit About Our New Streaming App
SwyftFiber now offers a live TV streaming service, SwyftTV, powered by SFN, where subscribers can watch their local stations, national networks and premium channels.
SwyftTV is an app-based service that works on Apple and Android devices, Amazon and Roku Smart TVs, and also Amazon’s Fire TV Stick and the Roku Express streaming devices. Links to resources are included, plus details on creating a Roku account without a credit card.
If you’re installing the SwyftTV app on either a mobile device or an Amazon Smart TV or Fire TV Stick — or if you’ve already created a Roku account — the process of downloading the app is the same as getting any other app for the chosen device. Search the app store for “SwyftTV”, click install, then log into the app with the credentials you were emailed at signup.
However, if you’re using either a new Roku Smart TV or a Roku streaming device, you will need to take the extra step in setting up a personal Roku account. Your Roku account is completely free and there are no monthly fees associated with it. The account gives you access to an ever-expanding library of films, TV shows, local stations, music and more from the Roku Channel Store.
A credit card is NOT REQUIRED to create a Roku account
Unfortunately, Roku doesn't make that obvious during the setup process. We detail a “work-around” that allows you to skip entering any credit card information in the next paragraph. First, it is important to explain why you actually may want to provide credit card info during the account setup. Adding a payment method lets you easily rent or buy movies on demand or subscribe to popular services like Netflix or Hulu. For some of us, it simply streamlines purchases and simplifies the subscription process. You can remove the payment method at any time as long as you don't have any active subscriptions through Roku.
Setting up a Roku account without a credit card
If you are setting up a Roku account directly from your Smart TV or Roku streaming device, one of the final steps in creating an account will prompt you to enter your credit card information. We suggest that you create the Roku account BEFORE you perform any setup by clicking over to https://my.roku.com/signup/nocc. This is a special link Roku provides which allows for the creation of an account without entering any credit card info! Just make sure you write down the account credentials so that you can quickly log into your existing account once the setup process is started on the Roku device.
